Once

There was so much promise.
Once

For a future that lay ahead.
Once

As I lay my head on you
As we lay
Once
the love burned
with a fire that could give birth.

The flowers would have grown
The children would have known
A completeness never felt before.

Painting and wording, drinking coffee through the night.
Picnics for a lark. Playing sparklers in the dark.
Like happy gypsies singing and prancing through the forests:

But we hit a turn in the road.
You began to goad and load us
with your
mistrust of all things good and pure.

The distance grew further
the time got shorter
the flame spluttered
and died.

I cried
You sighed

You denied the existence of love.
Anarchy rules what a bunch of fools. Can't they see or is it only me
Or is it only you

Once we were one
But now we are two
So blue so true
We fell apart without the glue
Of trust and love.

From a galaxy far far away
